Wow - what happened - a blog about motivation and blogging and I stop blogging for weeks… so much for being motivated, right. I’ve been busy, and I’ve been thinking about the topic I want to focus on for this blog. It’s probably just going to be a whatever I feel like writing about blog - my interests, hobbies, and life. So, you might find a post about sports, or blogging, making money on the Internet, or Mountain Biking. My brand is going to be ME - the adventures of the not so famous Michael Hargis and his journey through life - haha.

Focus

I know they say you should narrow down your focus of your blog. “Don’t try to please everyone” - I’ve heard that one too. If my focus is my life and my interests, then the broadness is only limited, or constrained, by myself. And trust me, there are plenty of people interested in some of the same things I am interested in (I feel like I’ve used interests/interested to many times already). There will still be posts on the topics of blogging, motivation, and inspiration - but I will also be cycling in some other topics I am very passionate about. I will probably even be able to tie all the topics in with each other. I really want this blog to grow - for some reason I find it harder to write for this, my own personal, blog.

A New Dedication

So, I plan on putting forth the effort to post more often. A site can’t grow without content - we all know content is king. I’ve been able to motivate myself to work on some of my other projects, but not this one. I know I don’t have many readers at this point, but this is for those who find the site and see the huge gap between the last post and this post.

Update

What have I been up to? What am I planning to write about here?
Well, I have been working my regular 9-5 as a Web Designer/Developer - that takes up a lot of my time (more than 8 hours with a 50 min drive to work and 50 min drive home). I’ve also been working on a few new sites and projects. None of which will be promoted here - not at the moment anyway. Along with other websites, the ‘projects’ includes my first real try at pay per click marketing and affiliate marketing. I’m starting very slowly - just learning the ropes and cautiously testing the waters before I invest a lot of money into it.
As for what might be coming… I plan on doing a series of posts about building a niche site, or niche store, with WordPress and possibly ebay auctions integration using phpbay or BANS (Build A Niche Store). Also, it’s NCAA Men’s Basketball time and I love it - so a post or two maybe with an integration of blogging and/or motivation. I have a few other ideas as well… we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. First, I’m off to New York City for Thanksgiving for the rest of the week.

Man, I am lazy - I wrote this intro so long ago - such procrastination. Plus, I was a little busy over the summer with starting a new job, going to a bachelor party in Vegas, moving into a new apartment, and being in a wedding in Seattle. Though I could have started this blog in late winter or the spring, I decided to hold off - it just didn’t feel like the right time to start. Now that I have a steady job and am not quite so worried about my finances(still pretty worried), I feel I’ll have more time to put into this site. Anyway, here is the intro I wrote back in February…

The first post - the introduction/welcome to my site please stay awhile and come back often - post. For me, it’s the hardest post to write. Not only does it mean that after you publish it you have officially started your blog, but it also sets the tone for your readers. It can give them a quick depiction of the blog and you - then they make the decision - will they be back - is he/she going to be writing about things that interest me?

Then again, a lot of readers won’t even read your first post. They might find your blog after you already have 20 or so posts and never read your welcome post. Or they might see the welcome in the title and figure they don’t want to waste their time (that’s why I usually use the welcome post as the about page as well).

So, my name is Michael Hargis - that’s where hargism comes from. I am on the internet A LOT and I am constantly researching blogging, monetizing sites, web design and development, and other things. I am not a professional blogger - I don’t claim any Internet fame. I am just a normal guy with information to share about my journey into blogging, trying to stay motivated, and anything else that might interest me. As you will come to find out later, I have a unique way of writing my posts for this blog. As a matter of fact, I am writing this post sitting in the dark because of a power outage due to ice and snow - I want my computer and Internet! Besides being on the net I do enjoy getting outside - playing sports (basketball, soccer, and more), mountain biking, and other outdoor activities. So, that’s a quick bit about me. Hopefully you’ll stick around and learn with me - and probably teach me a thing or two.
